Come Quickly...Distress

Jeremiah 6:10 Whom can I speak to? Whom can I give a warning to? Who will listen? Their ears are plugged, and they aren’t able to pay attention. When the LORD speaks his word to them, they show contempt for it and object to it.
Jeremiah 6:10

April 14th 1912

The R.M.S. Titanic plies through the water at great speed as it moves across the Atlantic, the water is glassy smooth and there is no moonlight. The bow of the massive ship cuts through the water casting large waves off and quickly leaving them in its wake. It’s cold this night, but those inside don’t feel it, especially those in the Smoking Room in front of the fireplace. The wealth and opulence of the ship is practically drowned by the wealth of the individual men standing about puffing on expensive cigarettes and tipping back intricately carved glasses full of brandy.

“Oh this ship is quite a wondrous creation.”

“Indeed, not even God could sink this ship.”

On the Bridge

Lightoller is pacing on the perfectly constructed decking spotting glasses around his neck; he is ill at ease because of the Captains decision earlier. Despite the numerous warnings of ice it had been decided to continue onward and make haste towards the eastern seaboard of the United States. They wanted to set a new record, the quickest crossing of the Atlantic, nothing but first place would do. After all this was the mighty Titanic, it certainly wouldn’t be sporting to finish in second place.

“Have we found the glasses for the Crows Nest,” asked Lightoller.

“We have not,” came the reply from across the bridge.

Crow’s Nest

It is bitterly cold at such an absurd height and the Officer of the Watch is having trouble even keeping his gloved hands warm. He was quite happy that he’d only spotted a few low lying growlers, small floats of ice that posed no real danger, especially since he’d had a hard enough time spotting those. You could see practically bugger all without spotting glasses, and the flat sea and no moon made his job triply impossible. And now fog, fog out of nowhere.

“Oi! I thought I’d come and join you mate!”

“Well at least they could afford a second pair of eyes! Keep a close eye to front!”

“Right-ho! Spotted anything nasty?”

“Just some growlers to port and starboard…hold on…”

There’s some white froth ahead and both men in the Crow’s Nest strain to make out any possible danger. Emerging from the fog bank not half a mile ahead is a wall of white, coming up higher than the deck rail.

“That’s no growler!”

The Officer of the Watch turn to the communications tube and cups his hands around the mouthpiece before yelling: “Iceberg! Right ahead!”

The Bridge

Lightoller reacts with admirable swiftness.

“Rudder Hard-a-Starboard! Engine Full Stop! Engine Full Astern!”

On the controls column the Engine Selector is set to Full Astern and the message is thus relayed to the Engine Room. The Command is also transmitted through a communications tube.

Engine Room

Levers are thrown and all the men can do is watch as with inexorable slowness the pistons finally clatter to a stop. Then they slowly begin moving again this time the drive shaft is only moving the single, monstrous reverse propeller.

“Maneuver complete,” yells the Engine Master into the communications tube.

Crow’s Nest

Slowly, ever so slowly, the bow of the mighty Titanic begins to turn to Starboard. Both men grip the edges of the basket, their eyes widening as the berg approaches far too quickly for their liking.

“Turn, TURN!”

“It’s going to hit!”

The Bridge

“Get a move on! Turn…Turn…TURN!”
The berg glides past ominously close and for a few moments there’s nothing, no one moves, they all hold their breath.

Then there’s a shudder, and ice rains on the decks, there’s a few dull tremulous shakes and then behind them the iceberg is lost to the night.

Lightoller calls out: “Shut the watertight doors! All stop!”

Within moments Captain Smith is on deck asking Lightoller the situation.

“I tried to hard-a-starboard and called her full astern but-.”

“And the watertight doors?”

“All closed Sir.”

The Captain looks at the diagram of the ship and indeed all the lights for the watertight doors show closed. He turns back to Lightoller, and shakes his head every so slightly.

“You did your best.”

“Yes Sir.”

“Send someone to the radio room tell them to send out a C.Q.D.-“

“Do you really think we’re sinking Sir?”

“Just in case Lightoller.”

“At once Sir.”

The Radio/Wireless Room

“Perhaps we just threw a propeller blade?”

“I don’t know mate that sounded like no thrown blade I’ve ever heard.”

Both of them were quickly on duty and working fast there was a backlog of messages to get off the wireless. Most of them from rich people who wanted to warn people they might be late at the docks, these guys were off at the starters pistol they were. At the knock on the door one looked up to see on of the Officers from the Bridge.

“Send out a C.Q.D.,”he said smartly handing over a slip with co-ordinates, “And get it out now. No more rich traffic!”

“At once Sir,” responded the Wireless Operator but the Officer was already gone,” we got co-ordinates. I fancy I’ll try that new code too.”

“That’s the one.”

There’s a C.Q.D. going out right now, right this very second. C.Q.D. stands for Come Quickly Distress, and at this very moment the state of affairs in this world are causing a great many people to be in distress. People all around the world, Christian or non-Christian are calling out to God in fear because they just aren’t sure what’s going on. To those who are not inclined towards spiritual things there is a sense that something is strangely out of whack. It is almost as if the worlds unraveling into chaos, like thread running off a spool. Such things can cause great unease when you have no anchor, nothing that you can trust and count on.

At this time, in this place I lament like Jeremiah did, wondering why so many people just aren’t paying attention to what’s in front of their eyes. The book that’s such a bestseller it’s not even listed on the list anymore. The book that is called The Bible, the divine Words of God, has all the answers that this world is looking for, has had them for many a year and that’s the problem.

You see this is a world that has tossed God under the bus long ago because He just made living too difficult; everyone wanted to be in charge of their own destiny. Isn’t it easier to follow the rules if you’re the one making them up after all? Isn’t life much easier now that I’m my own god? Sure it’s easier for the time being, for now there’s no real problem, you can just go out and party if you wish. Why not by that new BMW?

That would be all well and good is God, the creator of the universe didn’t exist, but He does and He’s paying very close attention.

The Kingdom That Will Last Forever

Dan 7:24 The ten horns are ten kings that will rise to power from that kingdom. Another king will rise to power after them. He will be different from the kings who came before him, and he will humble three kings.
Dan 7:25 He will speak against the Most High God, oppress the holy people of the Most High, and plan to change the appointed times and laws. The holy people will be handed over to him for a time, times, and half of a time.
Dan 7:26 But judgment will be handed down, his power will be taken away, and he will be completely and permanently destroyed.
Dan 7:27 The kingdom, along with the power and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven, will be given to the holy people of the Most High. Their kingdom is eternal. All other powers will serve and obey them.”

Daniel 7:24-27

There is a time coming much sooner than most think when an unending Kingdom will be set up upon the Earth. And the one who will rain over that Kingdom is Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

This is not something that can be avoided, but it is something that can be joined. Soon there will come a time of distress on the world the likes of which no one has ever seen, but you don’t have to be on the Earth for it. There is still time to acquire Salvation through Jesus Christ, the only perfect sacrifice, the only way to escape the just anger of God.

I’ve already told you plenty of times how to gain Salvation, in fact in yesterdays post I shared it again. In Christian love I keep pulling the Gospel out of the Bible for you and pointing you to the Savior, the only way of survival. This is something I love to do, and I will do it as long as God allows me to, but when He blows that trumpet and calls me home I hope you’re ready to go.

The world can send out all the C.Q.D.’s it wants, but soon the wrath of the Almighty God will come down upon this earth. And unless you get into the lifeboat now you will likely be swept away to an eternal nightmare you want no part of, and that is after the wrath.

Those Who Accept Salvation Will Be Kept From Gods’ Wrath

Rev 3:10 Because you kept the Word of My patience, I also will keep you out of the hour of trial which is going to come on all the habitable world in order to try those dwelling on the earth.
Revelation 3:10

There is no need to send out a C.Q.D.

There is no need to suffer through Gods’ wrath.

There is no reason to go to Eternal Hell instead of Eternal Heaven.

Choose Salvation instead through Jesus Christ. Let God show you a Grace you don’t deserve and accept it by Faith.

Remember you cannot save yourself only Jesus can do it for you.

In fact I think I hear Him calling: “C.Q.D. Come Quickly and escape the Distress.”
In Christ,
