A Double Sided Promise

This promise can be claimed by anyone who is a believer in Christ Jesus and who has accepted the Gift of eternal life by Grace through faith. It is a picture of God’s endless love for His last act of creation, humanity. In these three verses you can see before you make the choice what’s waiting for you on the other side if you will. Let’s check out not only the positive side of each verse and the alternate negative reversal of the same verse. We’ll label the two responses Sinner and Saved.

On Sin

Psa 103:10 He does not punish us as we deserve or repay us according to our sins and wrongs.

Sinner: Everyone including myself is a Sinner “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) We are born into sin because of Adam’s sin in the Garden of Eden, this whole world is now a sick and distorted creation because of our allegiance with sin and it’s instigator Satan. Since we are by default on Satan’s side on this matter our final destination is not in doubt, and that destination is Hell, which is Eternal. You cannot have eternal life in Heaven and not have a punishment of the same length if we did God would not be dealing with everyone with equal justice. Hell isn’t designed for humans it’s designed specifically for Satan and his Demons the 1/3rd of all the angels that rebelled with him.

Saved: Fortunately we have a way out that is through realizing that we cannot save ourselves. Our own good deeds our like filthy rags to the Lord, we have to come to Jesus and give up everything to Him repent of our sin, for He died on that Cross for everyone who has and will have ever lived. (Romans 6:23) says: “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Jesus has taken on the eternal Hell punishment of EVERY person for them, and through that sacrifice we suddenly find ourselves on the narrow path that leads to eternal life in Heaven. He took our Sins, and our deserved judgment upon Himself and here’s a free gift of life eternal I’m giving it to you through my Grace.

On Love
Psa 103:11 As high as the sky is above the earth, so great is his love for those who honor him.

Sinner: While we are lost in Sin we cannot picture this love, or we simply laugh at it because it seems beyond belief. This type of love exists but it is not grasped because such an idea seems laughable. We as sinners only find conditional love, the love that makes sense to us. This love is fickle, it’s not constant, it’s is based on good works or doing things that are pleasing to others. We bask in this love this adoration because in our sinful state Satan makes us focus on Self, selfishness leads to self-gratification. However, one must be careful because while the world under the ownership of Satan tells you that you’ll only get joy from pleasing yourself; you must realize that this love is the very same conditional love that others are giving to you. Can such a love satisfy? Is honoring others or even worse honoring self really going to work out in the end?

Saved: We honor Jesus and we honor God because He is mighty to save. Since we have through accepting Jesus’ sacrifice found the narrow road to Heaven we move from a shallow conditional love to an astounding unconditional love. This love that we could not comprehend is so great that it reaches as high as the heavens. This picture is of the vastness of God’s love for those who return to Him, God’s unconditional love for us is bigger than the universe because God created the universe. God has been around forever and His unconditional love will last forever as well. And just like eternal life it is another gift that we have received that we did nothing to earn. And that is why we honor our Lord and Savior.

And what of Our Sins?
Psa 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our sins from us.

Sinner: Since we joined with Satan in the rebellion we see sin as normal. In fact everything we do is selfish, and everything we do leads us into more sin. We drown in sin, we walk and talk sin, we think sin and we join musicians in singing and dancing to sin. Every day of our lives we are falling deeper and deeper into sin in and endless cycle of loss and hurt. And eventually when we die we will go to a place where we’ll in torment forever, know that we made the wrong choice. We’ll stand once in Judgment before the Lord of all and our self-righteousness will be shown as feeble lies. As sin against the most high God, and we will be banished to eternal hell where we’ll be able to think about what we could and should have done. We will live in Sin forever in a fire that cannot be quenched, the place named Hell.

Saved: We accepted Jesus death; He hung vertically on the cross and took our punishment, our Hell upon Himself. He gave us the gift of eternal life so that we could be with Him forever in Heaven where we will experience His everlasting unconditional love forever and ever. Those sins that would have drowned us and sent us to Hell he puts as far away as the East is from the West. You notice that it doesn’t say North to South but East to West; that’s because God is using the Earth to show how “wide” or all encompassing His love is. You see the Earth has a North and South Pole eventually you can go North to one or South to the other; however you can go either East or West till you’re blue in the face and you’ll still be going East or West!

In Conclusion

As a Christian when you die you also face the Judgment Seat of Christ, but this Judgment Seat is called the Bema Seat. The Bema Seat was where the Olympic Judges gave out rewards for successfully completing the race or event. In Heaven the Bema Seat will be sat upon by Jesus, and all those sins that you did won’t even come to mind, they are cast away as far as the east is from the west. You are Saved for eternity because you accepted the free gift of eternal life from the Judge seated in front of you. Instead you are going to be judged on the actions in your life, how much was God focused and how much was focused on yourself? How much did you share and shine the light of the Holy Spirit on others and put others first; and how much was for self-gratification?

All the stuff for self will be burned away in a Holy fire, and the rest will be precious stones and metals formed into crowns. And just like the Olympic Judge Jesus himself will put the Crown(s) you have earned on your head and He will say to you:

‘Well done, you good and faithful servant!’ said his master. ‘You have been faithful in managing small amounts, so I will put you in charge of large amounts. Come on in and share my happiness!’ Matthew 25:23

In Christ,

Ross
