A Lotta Flash…A Lotta Bang…A Whole Lotta Fizzle

Flash…Bang…Fizzle.

15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

1 John 2:15-17 (NASB)

The Apostle John wrote of course the Gospel that bears his name and the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ. He also wrote a trio of Epistles 1-3rd John and they are filled with some of the most timely writing you could possibly find. Today we’re looking at 2nd John chapter 2 verses 15-17.

First of all he warns us to not love either the world or the things of the world.

I’ve said a number of times that we’re born with a sin nature; this sin nature makes us drawn to the things of this world. Right now this world is under the control of Satan and he makes everything all right in fact he makes everything perfectly okay and generally keeps the focus on selfish things.

Everything we love in this world is in one-way or another superficial; you only need to watch the commercials on TV to figure that out. We have commercials for mascara that lengthens and makes lashes fuller and sexier, and then we’ve got bra’s that magically increase your breast sizes (and feature roiling fireballs and ladies with next to nothing on), and then we’ve got the latest episode of On the Red Carpet.

We’ve got major musical productions that are more about wearing the sexiest and strangest outfits possible and dancing like a stripper without a pole. Age defying makeup, Botox Restylence, Shake Weight, and just about anything you can imagine making yourself new and improved. All about making you younger and sexier because you deserve it, it’s all about you, and sex sells.

This world is a tired world, of tired people all trying desperately to keep up with everyone else so they’re not left behind. This world is a world of hollow hopes, fake fantasies and shocking shallow self-image.

That is exactly why God is using John to say: 15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

It’s also why we’re being called to set ourselves out and apart from this world. If we don’t we’re warned that if we love this world, this world controlled by Satan than Christ is not in us.

As Christians we’re filled with the Holy Spirit, a part of God is in us, that’s why we feel so disgusted with ourselves when we sin.

I’m not about to pull any punches so if you’re a Christian and you’re married to someone and having an affair with someone else, God’s involved with that affair and He’s disgusted.

If it wasn’t for me giving up some dark and nasty secrets to God after a long and drawn out struggle, I would still be making the part of God, the Holy Spirit in me be a part of some abhorrent things.

I cannot thank the Lord enough for His promise that once he starts a good work in you he will not finish until it is completed.

That goes for anyone who is struggling with anything, drugs, alcohol, and Internet pornography or smoking, abuse be it physical or verbal, anger management issues; if you get on your knees and admit that you can’t do it on your own and ask for God’s forgiveness He will come into your life. And it will never be the same again.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

I’ve pretty much covered this already because I got ahead of myself but it can’t be repeated enough; this entire world and all that it stands for come from the Father of Lies, Satan.

Now I’m not saying animals, nature, the planet and all that; I’m talking about the sin, the distortion, the lust, the selfishness, the anger and the broken nature of everything. Satan has transformed this world from perfection, to a twisted and perverted abortion of what God had created it to be. And it’s all because he used that Serpent in the Garden of Eden to appeal to Eve and Adam and their elevated look of themselves, their pride.

It’s a sobering thought, and an unfortunate reality. God calls us to deny the world, get out, be set aside.

17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

If you’ve read the Bible specifically the book of The Revelation of Jesus Christ you know that this perversion of a world and all of its lusts are going to come to an end. Satan’s reign on this planet is soon to come to an end, eventually God the Father will say to the Son…”Go Son bring your Bride home.”

And Jesus will come and take us to always be with Him, take us to His Father’s House in Heaven. However you have to make the decision to Repent, receive the Holy Spirit because if you don’t you won’t make that trip.

In Conclusion

The honest truth is that there are a lot of people who will think: “Yeah that sounds smart but I’ll do it tomorrow.”

The other honest truth is that there’s no guarantee that there will be a tomorrow, you could die in any of a multitude of ordinary or unexpected ways. If you don’t make a choice now you might never have a chance to make it again. And let me just simply remind you that if you haven’t made a choice then you already have, remember you’re born a sinner, you’re on Satan’s team.

If you look ahead and read the book of Revelation you’ll find that Satan looses…forever.

Make the right choice now before it’s to late, because you don’t want to be here when the Wrath of God starts raining down.

In Christ,

Ross
