Project 3:16 continues with Exodus

Exodus 3:16 Go, and gather the elders of Israel and say to them, Jehovah the God of your fathers has appeared to me, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, I have surely visited you and have seen what is done to you in Egypt.

God is speaking to Moses through a burning bush that isn’t burning up. And Moses is coming up with a plethora of excuses of why he cannot do what God is telling him to do. The number of times God has had such a conversation with singular members of the human race burning bush or not has to be pretty high right about now. For the most part though nothing has changed, we as people still make up the lamest excuses for why he can’t possibly mean us.

Moses himself before we’ve even made it to this 16th verse has shared a couple of classics. What makes me worthy and Say I do go and say that I come in the name of God…erm…and they’re not sure I come from you…well what’s the proper name I should use?

I could just imagine God thinking: “Oi vey! Why did I have to give these people the freedom of choice?

We often have some better excuses too, ones that we choose not to use. Moses had a zinger.

Well God I’m sure Moses thought: If you’ve been watching you do remember the fact that I KILLED and Egyptian guard right. Kinda makes me going back there problematic.

When God calls to us through our Conscience/Spirit our most common excuse is that we don’t have the time, if we even take the time to pay attention that is. You see most people just flat out ignore their conscience until it’s so quiet that it isn’t bugging them anymore. Life is so much simpler when you only have to do what you want to do, or only have to worry about what you want to worry about. This God thing is an extra complication.

To which I say, fair enough, I’ve known God all my life and you bet it’s been complicated. My life continues to be exciting just because I don’t know where God is going to lead me next. There are times when I still try to ignore him but I came to realize that ignoring God is impossible because he never ignores you.

He never gives up on you, even if His voice is just a whisper, He’s still checking up on you.

He sees what is happening in our lives just as He saw what was happening to the Israelites in Egypt. He wants nothing more than to form a relationship with us to bring us out of our own personal Egypt. Whether your Egypt is, Adultery, Pornography, Shoplifting, Lying, being snide to others heck even if your Egypt is hating the very God who’s trying to help you God is watching over you and wants to help you figure it out.

Stop making excuses, go face to face with God, listen to what he has to say and act on it accordingly. If you do so I promise you a much more interesting and active world then you could possibly imagine. And it might even save your life.

In Christ,

Ross
